Since 1999, the CommonCare Meals Ministry has been offering community meals that are open to all. Meals are served twice a month from September to June. In 2017 we served approximately 1200 guests, with the assistance of Saint Peter’s parishioners and around 150 volunteers from colleges, churches, and the community at large.
In two hours’ time, we cook six dishes that provide a nutritious and appealing meal, including dessert with homemade whipped cream. While the food is cooking, we transform the church undercroft into an attractive dining room. We always lay individual place settings so that our guests will feel at home. When the meal is over, we wash up and prepare the undercroft for Sunday use.
We invite you to join in CommonCare activities on Friday evening and Saturday (see the work schedule at the right). You don’t have to commit to an entire Saturday—you can participate as your schedule allows. All are welcome to help!
Individuals can volunteer by signing up for the CommonCare volunteer email list (secured with double opt-in). A few days before each meal, you will be sent a link to our sign-up form, which gives you a choice of tasks and times. If you don’t want to join the list or are interested in bringing a group, please email us commoncare@saintpeterscambridge.org.
