For more than 20 years Saint Peter’s has sponsored Afterworks, a state-licensed multicultural after-school program providing a safe and nurturing after-school environment for Cambridge children aged 5 to 12.

Although the program is open to anyone who needs after-school care, Afterworks particularly aims to serve families with the greatest need and fewest resources by offering them significant scholarships. Saint Peter’s helps to support these scholarships with an annual pledge drive. Unlike many other after-school programs, Afterworks is open on snow days, early release, professional days, and during school vacation weeks, which is a great help to hard-pressed working parents.

Enrolled children receive healthy snacks and homework help, play educational games, and participate in group singing, crafts, dancing, and plays. Outdoor exercise and field trips are provided as weather allows. Program director Vyonni de Mel, assistant teachers, and a committed crew of Saint Peter’s volunteers provide care and individualized attention to each child. Additional enrichment activities include age-appropriate music lessons (taught by Saint Peter’s organist, Marissa Hall) and 19th-century arts and crafts (taught by a volunteer from the Otis House Museum in Boston).

If you are looking for high-quality after-school care for your child, please contact program director Vyonni de Mel at or visit the Afterworks website.
